School counselor referrals can come in a variety of ways. One way is a teacher referring a student for social-emotional needs. In this case, parents will be contacted and a permission slip will be sent home, and that student will receive 6-8 sessions of goals-based counseling, and then will be reassessed on whether they need more sessions. Another way students can be referred is through parents, who have a concern about their child or know that they are struggling. Thirdly, students can self-refer for a drop-in as needed if they are having a rough day. During this time we will practice calming and coping skills before they return to class.
