I-messages are something that students are taught during classroom lessons. When they are unhappy with a situation or a person, they can communicate that using the format "I feel... when you... next time, please..." This non-confrontational way to communicate can lead to positive results and closer friendships. For example, a student might tell a peer "I feel mad when you steal the ball from me. Next time please let me use it until I am done." This can be a positive way to communicate at home too.
