• School vouchers - School vouchers give parents the freedom to choose a private school for their children, using all or part of the public funding set aside for their children’s education. Under such a program, funds typically spent by a school district would be allocated to a participating family in the form of a voucher to pay partial or full tuition for their child’s private school, including both religious and non-religious options. 

• Public schools - a school that is maintained at public expense for the education of the children of a community or district and that constitutes a part of a system of free public education commonly including primary and secondary schools.

• Charter Schools - A charter school is a school that receives government funding but operates independently of the established state school system in which it is located. It is independent in the sense that it operates according to the basic principle of autonomy for accountability, that it is freed from the rules but accountable for results.

• Parochial Schools - A parochial school is a private primary or secondary school affiliated with a religious organization, and whose curriculum includes general religious education in addition to secular subjects, such as science, mathematics and language arts.  

• Legal Immigration -are foreign-born people legally admitted to the U.S.  

• Illegal Immigration - Illegal immigration refers to the migration of people into a country in violation of the immigration laws of that country, or the continued residence without the legal right to live in that country. 

• Refugees - a person who has been forced to leave their country in order to escape war, persecution, or natural disaster. 

The immigration debate has focused mainly on:

• Finding the means to provide legal status for the twelve million or so immigrants in the U.S. without authorization seeing new opportunities in life.

• "Enforcement" approaches, such as deporting undocumented immigrants and building walls on the border with Mexico.
