What does that mean for my student?
If your student misses more than ten days of school each semester, they will be in danger of not receiving credit due to lack of seat time. This includes both excused and unexcused absences.
When and how do I submit an absence excuse for my student?
An absence excuse can be uploaded in Skyward (via the Absent Note tile) or turned in to the attendance office. A parent must provide an explanation for any absence upon the student's arrival or return to school. Students absent for a personal illness must bring a statement from a doctor or health clinic verifying the illness/condition that caused the absence within two days of returning to school. A student absent three or more consecutive days for personal illness must provide medical verification of illness.
Tell me more about the attendance laws...
Any student who misses any part of a school day may be in violation of the law. By law, the District is required to notify all parents/guardians at the beginning of each school year that if a student is absent without acceptable excuse* for ten (10) or more days (or parts of days) within a six month period, the school may file charges against both the parent (or person standing in parental relation) and student. A warning letter will be issued to students and their parent/guardian after the student accumulates three (3) absences without an acceptable excuse within a twenty-eight (28) day period.* School authorities may investigate absences. Without an acceptable excuse means any Unexcused Absence and includes truancy and any excuse note with a reason not accepted by a principal.

Vaping
Additionally, Pasadena ISD is committed to creating a safe, healthy, and thriving educational environment for all of our students. One crucial step toward achieving this is addressing the concerning rise of vaping among our youth. With a new state law that went into effect on September 1, 2023, we're taking proactive measures to ensure our students understand the impact of this legislation.

Altercations
Verbal and Physical altercations are not tolerated on campus. Any students who are in a physical altercation will automatically be assigned 3 days of out-of-school suspension and 3 days of in-school suspension. Spectators of altercations will receive the same consequences.
