Coach Frank Watson is a respected basketball coach, educator, program builder, and player development specialist with more than two decades of experience mentoring student-athletes and being a part of championship cultures at the college, high school, and AAU levels.
Coaching Experience
Watson began his coaching career in 2003 as a student assistant at Sam Houston State University, where he gained early experience in scouting, player development, and program operations. He later served as a graduate assistant coach at the University of Houston, further strengthening his foundation in high-level basketball instruction.
After college, Watson has served in multiple roles across the basketball landscape, including varsity assistant coach, AAU head coach / director, and personal trainer. He has also worked as a summer camp coach and skill instructor for various universities accross the country. In addtion to working elite level camps for state and national recruiting services, helping to evaluate and develop high-level basketball talent.
Player Development Pipeline
A hallmark of Watson’s career has been his ability to develop athletes for opportunities beyond high school. Through his network of former high school players approximately seventy have earned college basketball scholarships, while 10 former players have played professionally in various leagues around the world.
South Houston
Within his first role as a high school head coach at South Houston High School. Watson has guided the program through one of the most successful eras in school history. During his five-year tenure, the program has:
Set the school record for most wins in a single season (27)
Won the program’s only back-to-back district championships
Earned state and regional team rankings
Produced numerous All-Region and All-District selections
Achieved periods of 100% academic eligibility
Multipule players have earned college basketball scholarships
Named H-Town Sports Team of The Week
Watson has also been recognized as Greater Houston Area Coach of the Month and District Coach of the Year. His leadership helped establish a program culture built on discipline, preparation, accountability, and daily improvement.
Program Culture & Leadership Development
Beyond basketball performance, Watson is widely respected for his intentional focus on character and leadership development.
He implemented several culture-building initiatives within the program, including:
Manhood Monday – leadership and character development sessions
Leadership Council – player-led accountability and mentorship
4th Quarter Workout – strength, conditioning, and mental toughness training
These initiatives are designed to prepare student-athletes to become leaders in their teams, families, schools, and communities.
Education & Personal
Coach Watson teaches Business Principles at South Houston High School. He is married with four children and is a proud member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated, where he has served in multiple leadership roles for nearly two decades.

Jermaine Philps
"How you do anything is how you do everything." Coach Philps goal is to push his players to give their best every day. He loves to compete and win, but his true mission is to help his young men grow into strong, respectful, and successful men. He believes the lessons learned on the court prepare them for life off the court. Building character is just as important as building a winning team. Coach Philps has been a varsity assistant over the past three seasons of which the team has won back to back district championships and qualified for the playoffs for consecutive years. He played basketball for O'Connor High School in San Antonio and got a BA in Accounting from the University of Houston. Philps brings over ten years of experience coaching middle and high school basketball.

Harold Collier
Coach Collier believes in developing well-rounded athletes through a strong emphasis on teamwork, discipline, and continuous skill development. His approach focuses on building character both on and off the court while fostering a competitive and supportive team environment. Coach Collier has 15 years of experience coaching basketball. He as been at South Houston High School for 11 years coaching basketball, football, and track. Collier has been a varsity assistant basketball coach over the past three seasons of which the team has won back to back district championships and qualified for the playoffs for consecutive years. He has successfully improved team performance by directing strength and conditioning workouts within all levels of the program. Pushing each athlete past their "give up point," creating battle-ready competitors.

Paul Lamb
Coach Lamb is a SPED Teacher who has coached football and basketball over his past 5 years at South Houston High School. He is passionate about supporting students in the classroom and within sports. Coach Lamb graduated from Galveston Ball High School in 1994. He was a two sport letterman in football and basketball. Coach Lamb earned 2nd team all Galveston County in football. After high school he played receiver at Cisco Junior College during the 1994-95 season. He also played Played Tight End for Baylor and Texas A&M Commerce during the 1995-98 and 1998-99 seasons. Coach Lamb, graduated from Texas A&M Commerce in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He worked one year in Commerce ISD as an aid from 2001 - 2002. He also worked 19 years in Greenville ISD from 2002-2021 prior to coming to South Houston.

Torrence Stevens
Coach Stevens is a former South Houston High School alumni, where he competed in football, basketball, and track. This is his first year as a coach, and he is eager to use his experiences as a student-athlete to make a positive impact on the lives of young athletes. Inspired by the guidance and mentorship he received from his own coaches, Coach Stevens is dedicated to fostering discipline, teamwork, and perseverance in his players, hoping to provide them with the same support and inspiration that shaped his journey.
