Coach Watson has more than two decades of coaching experience at the college, high school, and AAU basketball levels. He teaches Business Principles at South Houston High School. Watson is also married with four children and a proud member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated, where he has served in multiple leadership roles for nearly two decades.

Through his network of former high school players approximately seventy have earned college basketball scholarships, while 10 former players have played professionally in various leagues around the world. A hallmark of Watson’s career has been his ability to develop athletes for opportunities beyond high school. He has also worked as a summer camp coach and skill instructor for various universities across the country. In addition to working elite level camps for state and national recruiting services, helping to evaluate and develop high-level basketball talent.
Within his first role as a high school head coach at South Houston High School. Watson has guided the program through one of the most successful eras in school history.

Named H-Town Sports Team of The Week by Channel CW39 Houston News.
Multiple players have earned college basketball scholarships.
Won back-to-back district championships in 2023 and 2024.

Varsity team earned a Top 25 state ranking by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.
Produced numerous All-Region and All-District selections.
Won 97 games over the past 5 seasons.
Beyond basketball performance, Watson is widely respected for his intentional focus on character and leadership development to establish a program culture built on discipline, preparation, accountability, and daily improvement. He implemented several culture-building initiatives within the program, including.

Jermaine Philps
Coach Philps has been a varsity assistant over the past four seasons of which the team has won back to back district championships and qualified for the playoffs for consecutive years. He played basketball for O'Connor High School in San Antonio and got a BA in Accounting from the University of Houston. Philps brings over ten years of experience coaching middle and high school basketball. "How you do anything is how you do everything." Coach Philps goal is to push his players to give their best every day. He loves to compete and win, but his true mission is to help his young men grow into strong, respectful, and successful men. He believes the lessons learned on the court prepare them for life off the court. Building character is just as important as building a winning team.

Paul Lamb
Coach Lamb has been an assistant coach over the past five seasons of which the team has won back to back district championships and qualified for the playoffs for consecutive years. Coach Lamb is passionate about supporting students in the classroom and within sports. Coach Lamb graduated from Galveston Ball High School in 1994. He was a two sport letterman in football and basketball. Coach Lamb earned 2nd team all Galveston County in football. After high school he played receiver at Cisco Junior College during the 1994-95 season. He also played Played Tight End for Baylor and Texas A&M Commerce during the 1995-98 and 1998-99 seasons. Coach Lamb, graduated from Texas A&M Commerce in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He worked one year in Commerce ISD as an aid from 2001 - 2002. He also worked 19 years in Greenville ISD from 2002-2021 prior to coming to South Houston.

Torrence Stevens
Coach Stevens is a former South Houston High School alumni, where he competed in football, basketball, and track. This is his first year as a coach, and he is eager to use his experiences as a student-athlete to make a positive impact on the lives of young athletes. Inspired by the guidance and mentorship he received from his own coaches, Coach Stevens is dedicated to fostering discipline, teamwork, and perseverance in his players, hoping to provide them with the same support and inspiration that shaped his journey.
