It's never too late to sign up for Orchestra. Just give us a call and we can help!
At Morris, you get to be in an orchestra class every single day! There are almost 200 students who are in the orchestra and there are two caring and fun teachers, Ms. Russell and Ms. Arnold who will teach you everything that you need to be successful!
What instruments are in the Orchestra?
There are four amazing instruments in the orchestra. Violin, Viola, Cello and Bass. They ALL come in different sizes depending on your arm length. Your teachers will help measuring you for the correct fitting instrument. Even if you like the largest instrument, the bass, there are many sizes of bass to choose from. Your teachers will give you the bass size that will help ensure success!
How do I get an instrument?
Your orchestra teachers will help you! They will host a meeting where local music stores will help you rent to own a quality instrument. PLEASE do NOT shop on the internet without guidance from your teacher. Many parents have been cheated with the promise of a low cost instrument and end up paying more to repair the instrument than getting a rental. Come to our meeting and let us help understand. When you sign up, we will contact you with the date! Keep an eye on our website for updates too!
How much do instruments cost?
They are VERY affordable! That is why we have such a HUGE program! Violin and Violas typically rent to own for around $20-$25 a month, Cellos and basses are between $45- $60 a month. Morris has some school owned instruments to give students who have financial need that rent for only $30 for the year. No one will be denied orchestra because of financial reasons.
Is Orchestra hard?
"I thought orchestra would be harder. Since I have a lot of cousins that play, I thought it would be harder because they were so good. But since now I'm in orchestra, I found out that it is easy!" by 5th grade violin Desirae
We teach our students everything from opening the case, correct positioning of the instrument, beginning music reading, and how to use the bow and fingers on the instrument. We have a strong success rate and have fun while we are playing!
This awesome beginner (and her mom) made these buttons for her class this year!
Here are four of our beginning violins. Look closely, there are different sizes of instruments represented here.
These are two of our beginning viola students. We help all of our students select the correct size for maximum success! It looks like a violin but it's not! It has a lower sound than the violin and when you get to the full size, it is a few inches larger than a violin.
Here is a bass and cello student. These are too big to take on the bus so our students keep one at home and play a school instrument in class! Easy Peasy!
