Are You Into The Arts? We Got You Covered?
Are You Into The Arts? We Got You Covered?
Whether you're just starting out or already have a knack for creativity, Pasadena Memorial High offers a wide range of art classes to help you grow your skills and find your artistic voice.
Start with Art 1
Art 1 is where most freshmen begin their journey. It’s a hands-on introduction to the four major art forms: drawing, painting, ceramics, and sculpture. Students get to explore each medium and discover where their strengths lie. If you’ve already shown talent in middle school, you might be placed in Advanced Art 1, where top students tackle more challenging projects and prepare for upper-level courses.
Go Advanced, Go Bold
Once you’ve found your favorite medium, you can dive deeper into one of our advanced art paths. These classes come with a $30 art fee to ensure students have access to high-quality materials and they open doors to scholarships and contests like the Houston Rodeo, Scholastic Art & Writing, VASE, Fish Art, and more.
Here’s a quick look at our advanced offerings:
Drawing (Mr. Alvarez)
Learn proportion, perspective, shading, and experiment with different media. Build technical skills while developing your personal style.
Sculpture (Mr. Alvarez)
Work with clay, plaster, and paper mâché to create expressive 3D art. Unlike ceramics, sculpture focuses on form and creativity over function.
Painting (Mrs. Nguyen)
Explore color theory, blending, and techniques using acrylics, watercolor, and more. Learn how to compose powerful visuals and express ideas through paint.
Ceramics (Mrs. Dugat)
Create functional pieces like mugs and bowls. You’ll learn hand-building, wheel throwing, glazing, and firing all while adding your own flair.
Why Join the Art Department?
Our art program doesn’t just teach technique it builds confidence, creativity, and problem-solving skills that carry over into every part of life. Last year, our students earned over $50,000 in scholarships. Their work is proudly displayed across campus, creating a sense of pride and community.
If you’re ready to take your creativity to the next level, we’d love to welcome you to the Maverick Art Community.
