Animal-Lovers Unite at Pasadena Memorial High School
If you're a Pasadena Memorial student who cares deeply about animals and wants to get involved, you're in the right place. Memorial offers two exciting opportunities to work hands-on with animals: Small Animal Management and FFA (Future Farmers of America).
Small Animal Management Class
Small Animal Management, led by Ms. Rankin, is a hands-on course that teaches students the essentials of pet care and grooming. This class is available during 3rd and 4th periods only, so be sure to speak with your counselor if you're interested in enrolling.
Here’s what a typical day looks like:
Morning Routine: Dogs are checked in and enjoy playtime and potty breaks during 1st and 2nd periods.
Grooming (3rd Period): Students bathe and condition the dog at the Agriculture Shop.
Drying & Styling (4th Period): Back in Ms. Rankin’s classroom, students dry the dog using professional equipment, trim nails, perform basic haircuts, clean ears, and, if requested, express anal glands.
Afternoon Care: More playtime and potty breaks during 5th and 6th periods.
Currently, grooming services are available only to PMHS faculty and staff. After coordinating with Ms. Rankin, staff members can drop off their pets before school and return them to their classroom or office by 7th period.
