About the Thompson Orchestra
Thompson Intermediate School is a 7th and 8th grade campus located in Southeast Houston as a part of Pasadena ISD. Our orchestra enjoys performing in the community and works hard for success at region orchestra, UIL, and solo / ensemble contests. We take a lot of fun field trips open to members of all orchestra classes.
About the Teacher
Mr. Varian graduated with a bachelor's degree in music education from Mansfield University of PA and a master's degree in music education from the University of Houston. He's taught 5th-8th grade orchestra in Houston area public schools for 27 years, finishing his 17th year at Thompson. He started cello at age 7 in his elementary school program and has sung in choirs since age 4. He was a private student of Susan Basilik, Mark Stewart, Stephen Stalker, and Vagram Saradjian. He performs as a soloist and quartet musician, private teacher, and is a cellist for the Clear Lake Symphony . In his spare time he enjoys cooking, playing guitar, fitness and the outdoors, and home improvement.
