Pavel is an elderly Jewish prisoner and servant.
He used to be a doctor.
He is now forced to serve as a waiter in the family's home at Auschwitz.
He helps Bruno after he falls from the tyre swing.
He is very thin and often unstable on his feet because of mistreatment and malnourishment.
Lieutenant Kotler is very rude and disrespectful to Pavel.
He orders Pavel to do whatever Bruno asks (even though Bruno is just a child)
Pavel sees Bruno fall from the swing and rushes to help him:
Pavel cares for Bruno after he falls and fixes his injury.
We find out that Pavel used to be a doctor before he came to the camp.
Bruno is puzzled and doesn't understand how he can be a doctor and "a waiter".
Bruno's Mother 'covers' for Pavel to protect him from Bruno's father.
