Fidget Spinner Project

We can use visualisation as part of planning and creating an artwork.

We can create a mixed media artwork inspired by Fidget Spinners.

We can create a design using the art elements of line, shape, colour and pattern.

PBS4L Collaborative Project 2017

We have chosen the symbol of a heart as a focus for our PBS4L Collaborative Project. When we follow our school agreements by doing our personal best, being respectful and being safe then Holy Cross becomes a community where we can all feel loved.

Helping Hands Project 2017

Our second Collaborative Project for 2017 used the symbol of a hand to further build on our PBS4L theme. It is by using our hands and taking action that we make PBS4L happen and make our school a place where we can all have a sense of belonging. Each grade created a helping hand in a different style and using different techniques. A selection of work from each grade is displayed in the MPLC for all to see.

Year 1 - Hands in the style of Romero Britto

Year 2 - Hands in the style of Picasso

Year 3 - Warm and Cool Hands - Concentric Circles

Year 4 - Aboriginal Dot Hands

Year 5 - Creating Optical Illusions - 3D Hands

Painted Paper Project 2017

What a wonderfully colourful project this was!!! This was a playful and explorative activity that has supplied the Art Room with fabulous painted paper that can be used for projects with any grade across the school this year. This is the technique that Eric Carle uses in his books to create illustrations and can be seen in 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'. We explored tones of a colour as well as analogous or harmonious colours which work well together to create these textured artworks using a variety of mark making tools. This was a messy and fun week in the Art Room:-)

Colour Wheel Project 2017

In the Art Room, we all have a colour group that we belong to with our own table to work at. To identify our group we all created a mini artwork to hang above our table thus turning the Art Room into a giant Colour Wheel. We have been learning about the Colour Wheel and monochromatic colour schemes as well as how to use symbolism in our art.

Catholic School Week 2017

Learning Connected, Everything's Connected

Catholic Schools Week is a great time for us to come together as a community and collaborate on a project that shows that we are indeed connected and that we belong at Holy Cross. In the Art Room all children had an opportunity to create an artwork of themselves that reflected in some way who they are. Likewise, across two mornings under the COLA parents and siblings also had the opportunity to do the same.

These artworks reflecting 'self' were connected in a line around our school that connected us with each other and connected our learning spaces together. Our starting point was to form a cross on the front grass that would testify to our faith and welcome families to our community on our Open Day. Congratulations to our Year 6 Leaders who worked hard to showcase our work.
