Industrial Technology Multimedia is an exciting computer based course which gives students opportunities to plan, design, develop and produce quality multimedia projects. Multimedia by definition is the use of multiple forms of the types of media (text, images, video, sound and hypertext [websites]). In the multimedia course, students will be taught how to use these forms of media to produce a range of multimedia related products. Students will gain industry skills using the current Adobe CC Suite and other animation/video software in this course.
Content is organised into FOUR modules and incorporates information on techniques, links to industry, design, workplace communication, occupational health and safety equipment.
Core Multimedia 1
Web Design: Throughout this unit students acquire skills to complete a number of website designs using online website development applications.
Video Production: Students investigate factors influencing design in video production and apply videography techniques including editing and post-production. Students also have the opportunity to learn the techniques used in animation and have the opportunity to use Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Animate.
Specialisation – Multimedia 2
Apps and Interactivity: Students identify and investigate factors influencing design in apps and interactivity, as well as, using authoring software to build interactive applications.
Games and Simulations: Students will identify and investigate factors influencing design in games and simulations. They will develop and evaluate component prototypes for games and/or simulations, as well as, explore or use animation techniques used to produce games and simulations.
The Industrial Technology Multimedia course requires students to be motivated independent learners, with a passion for computing technologies. Students need skills in problem-solving, working with others, good time management and organisation for their projects.
It is preferred that students have their own laptop capable of storing and editing large files. iPads and Chromebooks are not suitable for use in this course. If a student wishes to choose the course but doesn’t have access to a laptop, alternative arrangements can be made.
The Adobe Creative Suite will be available for students to download and use for the entirety of the course.
What kind of practical work might we do in Industrial Technology Multimedia?
Each year we change it up depending on who is in the classroom and their interests. In the past, we have looked at website creation, graphic design, game development, animation, short films, app development, 3D design and much, much more.
Is there theory work that we need to cover in our lessons?
Yes, there is always theory work to cover however the majority of the time in Multimedia, we cover the theory by engaging in practical work.
What kind of student do I need to be in order to enjoy Industrial Technology Multimedia?
You need to have a passion, drive and enthusiasm for computing.
You get excited by designing and creating work through using various technologies and software.
You can work independently but also in a group setting.
You are creative and enjoy challenges!
Why can’t I use my iPad or Chromebook in Multimedia?
Generally, the software that we use can’t be run on these devices due to the size and capabilities they need in order to run.
I’m really into gaming and thought that this would be a good subject for me to choose. Do you agree?
Don’t pick Multimedia just because you enjoy playing computer or console games. There is more to Multimedia than just playing computer games which sometimes students expect to do which is certainly not the case.
I have more questions, who can I ask?
Contact Ms Beauman for further clarification about the subject area.
