To successfully manage an event, there are many roles and responsibilities that need to allocated to a number of different people. A swimming carnival, for example, will require people responsible for marshalling athletes, starting and timing of events and judges to award placings for each event. Along with many other roles, these people must not only carry out their duty but also work in collaboration to ensure that the event runs smoothly.
Think about a major sporting event or an event you have been to recently; for example the Cerdon swimming carnival. Brainstorm a list of important roles that allowed this event to run smoothly and successfully.
2. In pairs, create a role description card to be used by officials at a swimming carnival. Your card needs to include the role description, important procedures and the equipment required.
Roles:
Carnival referee
Announcer
Marshaller
Starter
Timekeeper
Judge
Recorder
Lifeguard
Novelty convener
Media manager
Crowd supervision
Upload your card to Google Classroom.
3. Peer assessment- share your card with another pair/group and provide feedback.
I like- provide comments on what you think has been done well
I wonder- things that may bring up questions as to their accuracy, appropriateness, language used to express ideas, anything you think is missing
4. Recently you assisted at the Cerdon Swimming Carnival. Evaluate your performance in completing the role allocated to you on the day. Use the attached scaffold to guide you.
5. Investigate a successful CEO eg., James Johnson (Football Australia), Andrew Abdo (NRL) , Gillon McLachlan (AFL), Nick Hockley (Cricket Australia) or Rob Clarke (ARU)
