Despereaux

Despereaux is a tiny mouse with large ears and is the main character of the story, Despereaux is a mouse who wants to be friends with the princess of the castle he lives in, named Pea. But since Despereaux broke the rules of never interacting with humans, all the other mice voted for him to be sent to the dungeon to be eaten by rats. He soon escapes and goes on a journey to save the princess.

Miggery

Miggory also known as Mig is a small child who was sold by her father to a man to work around the house. Once she went out and saw the princess riding her horse and since then, her dream was to become a princess as well but since she is stuck working for the man she couldn't make her dream come true. She was found out by the knights and so the knights took her to work as a maid instead of working for the man because being sold was illegal in the kingdom.

Chiaroscuro

Chiaroscuro is a rat and nicknamed Roscuro for short. His name means the arrangement of light and dark, or darkness and light together. Roscuro once encountered light and has been trying to find light for a long time. so he goes on a journey to find that shining light and to bring it to the dungeon.

Princess Pea

Pea is a kind girl who also wants to be friends with Despereaux. Princess Pea is also the princess of a castle that Despereaux and his family live in, along with the dungeon where all the rats live.
