Bruno is the Main character in the book.Their role in the story is the main character. They want to move back to their old house in Berlin. Their Problem is that his dad got a new job and has to transfer to a new house which was so small compared to his old one and he had no friends and etc.
One of the important characters’ names is Gretel. Gretel is Bruno’s older sister. She and her brother don’t get along that well—one time she made Bruno raise his voice and make him get annoyed. For example, Gretel told Maria to help her take a shower, and after Bruno heard about Maria’s past. Then Bruno raised his voice and told her that she couldn't make Maria do things that Gretel could do alone.
Another important character is Maria. She is the housemaid. The reason she is an important character is that her grandma and Bruno’s dad were friends, and when Maria was like about 3 or 4 her grandma died and Bruno’s dad took her in and gave her a place to stay, and told her to work as the house maid.
One of the most important characters of all is Shmuel. Shmuel is one of Bruno's best friends whom he meets on the other side of the fence. Then they meet almost every day and Bruno gets him food and they both meet in the evening and talk. Bruno has so many questions about why they both ant play together and wy they can't come or go in the other side of the fence.
