NEMS Notes - Summaries

Chapter 1

Justyce was at Manny’s house at first, but when Jessa called (one of Melo’s friends) about her being drunk after a party, Justyce offered to help out. He was on his way walking up there, seeing Melo slumped over her car just looking if she lost something. When Justyce finally gets close enough to take her and get her in the car, she starts to get loud and annoying. But the hollering started to get louder, which meant people could hear the commotion. An officer car drives up beside them, with Justyce worried, he moves away from Melo, though instead he gets pulled back violently into the ground and arrested.

Chapter 4: Dear Martin Letter Sep 18

Justyce heads back home to his mom from playing cards with friends. Then his mom started to question him about the night the officers handcuffed him. Then started to talk about the school, telling us that he’s not able to fit in anywhere

Chapter 5

Justyce and his “friends”, except for Manny, dress up for a party they're going to later, but when they get there, Black (one of the friends) gets punched by someone there. Then some thugs showed that Manny and Justyce from their neighborhood came up to them, starting to argue with them, cursing them out and telling them to leave. Using a gun to make them leave the party, (well just the others, Manny and Justyce could stay.)

Chapter 6

Justyce gets into Yale, (that’s the college Justyce's been wanting to go to), telling SJ first on the phone, without realizing that he didn’t tell his mom first and how that has bruised him about how he feels about SJ. Realizing being friends with SJ isn’t so bad after all.

Chapter 10

Manny comes to visit Justyce at his dorm a few months later after what 's been happening. Justyce didn’t feel like it, so Many just pressured him out of bed telling him to go to a party with him. Justyce didn’t want to go at first, but decided to go anyway. At the party Blake, Jared, and Tyler (their highschool friends) Blake was asking for favor from Manny and Justyce, but Justyce wasn’t feeling it starting to get mad, swinging, punching Blake in the face. Jared and Tyler walk into the room, not knowing what had happened. Jared starts to start stuff then gets punched in the face as well, keeping Tyler unpunched.

Chapter 13

Justyce and Manny got together and drove together in Manny’s car. Windows were down, with blasting music coming from the car. A man comes up beside them, and starts yelling at them, Manny yells back. Justyce tries to break it apart then guns start to go off, shooting Manny and Justyce. With Manny dying in the car or hospital

Chapter 15

Manny has passed away and the funeral is soon Justyce is attending it, Kinda sad that his best-friend is gone. When the ceremony was over, Justyce was on the way to go to the bathroom, seeing SJ on her way back. They were talking and talking about where they’ve been but then Justyce's mom comes around the corner where they were.

Chapter 17

Justyce comes and visits Manny’s cousin (Quan) who killed a police officer some months ago, (when Manny was still alive.) They started to talk about the death of the officer Quan killed. Quan mentioned the officer who died (that Quan killed) was the officer’s partner who shot at Manny and Justyce. Castillo (The officer Quan shot) was there when he was trying to help Melo out because she was drunk one night, But Castillo thought he was carjacking her, arresting Justyce that night.

Chapter 20

Justyce stops by SJ (Sarah-Jane’s) house to tell her how everything was going. He hasn't talked to her since the funeral but also telling her how he felt about her for all this time.

Chapter 22

Justyce was held at court with everyone he knew, explaining to the judge what happened to Manny the day he died, and the night Justyce got drunk hitting JAred. But it does not seem that it’s going to go well with telling all of this to the judge.

Chapter 23

Justyce and SJ are sitting on the couch moping about how Justyce has to go through another trial and their lines together in the future. Then Mrs. Friedman comes downstairs on the phone with somebody making both Justyce SJ nervous. When Mrs. Friedman ended the call, there was a worried face on her telling the Officer (Garret Tison) that Many died in his cell the night after the trial Justyce had been to.
