The theme of Dear Martin, Nic Stone, is you should always have someone by your side helping you. In the start of the book, on page 4, Justyce was walking to Melo at night from a party. The book says, “”If he didn’t, he wouldn’t ve walked a mile from Manny’s house at three in the morning.”” Justyce was on his way at three o’ clock in the morning to go get Melo, his ex-girlfriend from a party where she got drunk. Melo was being very difficult, started to yell out her thoughts or just saying what are you doing here, or, leave me alone! Justyce told Melo that one of her friends told him to come get her because Melo threatened Jessa from helping her to get home. But then a police car comes near the two and Justyce gets worried, seeing blue lights and a siren. Melo escalated the situation even more by screaming and shouting, getting the police officer walking towards the vehicle. The officer throws back Justyce into the doorframe, getting yanked onto the trunk hurting him. A few pages later, on page 9, Justyce was just trying to get Melo into the car without anyone worrying making things worse. It says, “”Justyce swallows. Meets the cold blue of Officer Castillo’s eyes. Clears his throat “Yes sir,” he says. “I got it.” If Justyce would’ve just talked to Melo’s parents or let Jessa before he had to deal with the situation where Melo wasn’t able to drive home, then Justyce would’ve had not gotten arrested and not be damaged toward his experience. On page 205, towards the end of the book, “”There’s already someone standing over Manny’s grave as Justyce approaches.”” Justyce was walking up to Manny’s grave, though he saw someone already standing there by themself. Justyce noticed that it was Jared in tears talking to the grave, Jared noticed him wiping his tears away. They started to talk about life and college on how it’s going for them. Jared brings up meeting up sometime in New York. Then they bring up about visiting each other through colleges while they are away. Looking at the second to last page of the book, “”We should chill sometime,” Jus says.”” If Justyce would've had not planned to have walked up at Mannny's grave that day where Jared was, then Justyce and Jared friendship situation would have not been solved or had made up. The theme of Dear Martin, Nic Stone, is you should always have someone by your side helping you.
