8th grade Sketching technique for Sketchbooks tutorial

Hand Built Hanging Star Sculpture Project Directions AND tutorials

1. How to Fold the 5 Star Arms (legs / sections) tutorial ( 1 out of 6 Tutorials for the 7 step Star project)

2. Draw your patterns or illustrations on each star arm in pencil. Then trace your drawings with the black sharpie marker. GENTLY erase ALL Graphite pencil off of ALL 5 star arms.

For these drawings, I used a regular sized sharpie to trace my illustrations.

3. Color in your patterns or illustrations ONLY with the following colored pencil techniques: - BURNISHING, and - SHADING.

Please note!!! when you are finished painting the fronts of your star arms, when they are DRY you must reinforce the folds on the back by taping them JUST like in the picture on the right.

Step 1: draw the borders

Step 2: Using size/scale, placement and overlapping in your graphite drawing to make an illustration with REALISTIC DEPTH!

Step 3: DRAW YOUR MAIN SUBJECT, MINI versions and scene. OPTIONAL!! Trace and Transfer Technique

Step 4: Basic Outlining illustration with marker AND PEN & INK Techniques

Step 5: PRACTICING professional COLORED PENCIL techniques on a paper copy of your main subject ( you are NOT to color in anything on your illustration with colored pencil until you correctly master the following colored pencil techniques on your paper copy of your main subject!!) ( to help you better understand how to do these 2 techniques! The SHADING and BURNISHING techniques are to be applied to your main subject and mini-subject)
