To use the equipment in the Idea Lab, you will need a valid library card in good standing.
A signed Idea Lab Waiver is required of all users and visitors to the Idea Lab. Exception is given to individuals or groups on staff-led tours of the space.
Users (or, if minors, their parents/guardians) are responsible for any fees incurred for loss or damage to PCL property not associated with normal wear and tear that is the result of inappropriate or unauthorized use of tools, equipment, or consumable materials, or for cleaning the tools, equipment, or space. PCL is not responsible for any damage to, or loss or theft of, users’ personal property, including electronic files left on PCL computers.
Equipment and tools in the Idea Lab are available to library cardholders, generally on reservation during open hours.
Material fees must be paid by users upfront, before using any Idea Lab equipment.
Users must remain in the library at all times while using Idea Lab equipment. Library staff members are not responsible for monitoring the success of 3D printing or other related projects.
Users are responsible for paying material fees for projects regardless of their success.
At its discretion, staff reserves the right to disallow the use of any tools, equipment, or consumable materials, or to halt, delete, or disallow the creation of items that violate any library policy. Projects must be approved by staff before use to ensure that proper file format, size, and materials are being used. Approval to use the Idea Lab does not constitute endorsement by PCL of the uses to which the space is put or the products produced therein.
Makers at the Parkland Community Library’s Idea Lab must observe the library’s policies and the additional guidelines and responsibilities outlined in our Policy and sign the Waiver.
It is strictly prohibited to use equipment to manufacture or repair dangerous equipment or devices, including, but not limited to, firearms, explosives, and weapons.
The use of equipment in violation of state or federal laws, including the infringement of any copyright, trademark, patent, or other legally protected intellectual property, is strictly prohibited.
Failure to follow these guidelines will result in the revocation of the Idea Lab privileges and/or library privileges as outlined in the Customer Code of Conduct.
Before using the Idea Lab for the first time, the patron must complete the Idea Lab Waiver form.
