Learn, create, and innovate at the Parkland Community Library’s Idea Lab. The Idea Lab is a maker space and educational resource for the community to build creative skills, connect with technology, and make cool stuff!

The Idea Lab has 1 Baby Lock Joy sewing machine available for use

Description:

A sewing machine is a machine used to sew fabric and materials together with thread.

The Idea Lab has 1 Maker 3 available for use.

Description:

Cricut are cutting plotters, or computer-controlled cutting machines, designed for home crafters. The machines are used for cutting paper, felt, and vinyl

The Idea Lab has 1 Bambu Lab P1P 3D Printer available for use 

Description:

3D printing or additive manufacturing is the construction of a three-dimensional object from a CAD model or a digital 3D model. It can be done in a variety of processes in which material is deposited, joined or solidified under computer control, with the material being added together, typically layer by layer.

Description:

A Button Maker is a machine used to compress metal paper and plastic together to make pins.

Description:

A 3D pen is a pen that extrudes heated or warm plastic from the pen's nozzle to create a 3D object.

Policies and Procedures

To use the equipment in the Idea Lab, you will need a valid library card in good standing.

At its discretion, staff reserves the right to disallow the use of any tools, equipment, or consumable materials, or to halt, delete, or disallow the creation of items that violate any library policy. Projects must be approved by staff before use to ensure that proper file format, size, and materials are being used. Approval to use the Idea Lab does not constitute endorsement by PCL of the uses to which the space is put or the products produced therein.

Makers at the Parkland Community Library’s Idea Lab must observe the library’s policies and the additional guidelines and responsibilities outlined in our Policy and sign the Waiver.

It is strictly prohibited to use equipment to manufacture or repair dangerous equipment or devices, including, but not limited to, firearms, explosives, and weapons. 

The use of equipment in violation of state or federal laws, including violating any copyright, trademark, patent, or other legally protected intellectual property, is strictly prohibited.

Failure to follow these guidelines will result in the revoking of the Idea Lab privileges and/or library privileges as outlined in the Customer Code of Conduct.

Before using the Idea Lab for the first time, the patron must complete the Idea Lab Waiver Form.
