Argumentation Boards

The What?

Argumentation Boards use authentic topics to provide a platform for online discussion. The topics engage all students with a range of abilities, allowing everyone to interact and engage in the discussion. The boards provide multi-modal texts (Websites, videos, audio books, texts, infographics) which allow students to gather information for multiple sources, they are not limited to one text type or one opinion or view.

The Why?

We are preparing our students for a complex digital world. The boards allow for students to develop sub skills that promote critical thinking. The sub skills include making claims / propositions, supporting evidence, anticipating counter claims, critical reasoning & evaluation.

The How?

This website is a tool that can help you have a go with argumentation boards. The site includes examples which you can make copies of and use straight away with your students. It has videos of what argumentation looks like in the classroom and question prompts to assist.

About Me:

I am a Year 4-6 teacher at Park Estate School. This is my third year teaching and my second year teaching in a digital 1:1 environment. Every student in my class has their own chromebook as their learning tool. This year I have taken part in the 'Developing Digital Worlds PLC Series' through the University of Auckland.

This tool was created through the support of the 'Manaiakalani Innovative Teachers' programme.

I want to share my learning, encourage other teachers to give it a go and to provide a simple space where other teachers can use my resources.
