Create a provocation that will enable argumentation to occur rather than just persuasion. The image below explores the differences.

Frame the question to ensure students will be guided into the principles of Argumentation. Avoid Provocations that allow for a simple yes or no answer. Framing questions with the following will allow for multiple perspectives to be explored.

- Quality Provocation
- Have you included multiple perspectives?
- Have you used multi-model texts? ( E.g. websites, books, videos, audio, podcasts, infographics, pictures)
- Have you included a range of texts sets to allow for wide and deep reading. ( See image on right)
- Have you allowed students opportunities to discuss their prior knowledge?
- Have you allowed students time to gather evidence to support their view?
- Have students been given contradictory claims?
Allow students to develop an informed critically reasoned conclusion.
As the teacher offer alternative ways of thinking; going against the majority.
