Sogorea Te Mural:
The third graders worked very hard on a large scale public mural intended to promote local Oholone organization Sogorea Te. This was an integration project with the third grade Indigenous California unit; they used their understanding of Ohlone history and current issues to inform the visual design of the mural. They worked in partnership with Sogorea Te on this mural. Below are images of the nearly finished mural, preliminary sketches and watercolors, a class visit from artist Ines Gardilcic from Sogorea Te and photos from the process of painting. The mural measures 6 feet by 12 feet and will eventually be installed permanently on Park Day campus.
Artist Ines Gardilcic
Ines Gardilcic visited the third grade classes to present her work and offer feedback to the third grade students on their mural ideas and sketches. Ines is a local artist who works with Sogorea Te. Below are some of her works she presented to the class including a self portrait. Her artwork is political, deeply personal and from the heart. She talked with the students about how to be an "artivist." How to use your artwork to create positive social change in the world. Thank you Ines!!!
