Students will design and make a gameboard using various tools and materials.
Students will practice detailed design sketching and daily project documentation in their student portfolios
Students will gain experience using the following shop equipment: the laser cutter, miter saw, band saw, circular sander and Ink Scape vector software.
Game Dimensions: Your game must be either greater than 6" x 6" but less than 20" x 20".
Consider the group for whom you are designing the game. How many players? Age of players? Friends? Family? Your end user will impact the style of your game. Additionally, your user will impact the sort of image or collection of images you choose for the sign.
Choose the type of game you want to create. You also might find it fun to create your own, new game.
Create a SCALED design sketch of your gameboard. Include color and dimensions. Label materials/details.
Open InkScape software. Watch the video below for steps of how to create your game. After watching the video in its entirety, watch it again and follow step by step.
Cut two pieces of MDF wood using the miter (chop) saw). These should be the same size.
Laser cut your gameboard design onto one piece of MDF.
Assemble the gameboard using wood glue and clamps. The cut piece should be on top.
Mix and pour epoxy resin.
Sand gameboard.
You will use the miter (chop) saw to cute two pieces of MDF. These should be the same size pieces.
Work with a teacher to turn on and set up your game file for cutting. Your game file should be saved in your MAKE file in Google Drive. Open the .svg file on the laptop that runs the laser. Position the laser over the MDF for cutting.
Cut the gameboard.
Work with a teacher to turn on and set up your box file for cutting. Your base should be saved in your MAKE file on the network and then uploaded to your student portfolio page for the project. Open the .svg file on the laptop that runs the laser. Position the laser on the MDF to cut the box. Once your base layers are cut they should look like the picture below.
