Restart and Recovery

On June 26, 2020, the New Jersey Department of Education published guidelines for reopening all New Jersey schools for the 2020-2021 school year ("The Road Back: Restart and Recovery Plan for Education"). Both the published guidelines and Governor Murphy are clear in their message that, while all schools are expected to reopen in some capacity in September, the specific manner in which schools approach that reopening is dependent upon the unique needs and characteristics within each individual community. As was stated in the Paramus Community Update letter of June 26, every voice and every perspective must be heard and carefully considered in the formation of our plans to return to school. To that end, comprehensive committees representing a cross-section of our community are being formed and will be charged with providing input, guidance, and feedback to the overall reopening plan.

In order to facilitate the planning process, we have identified three core components under which the specific areas of focus essential to a successful reopening plan can readily be grouped. These three core components are:

  1. Conditions for Learning

  2. Leadership and Planning

  3. Continuity of Learning

As is illustrated in the images below, each core component contains multiple overarching areas of focus. The specific and detailed tasks and decisions connected with each of these overarching areas of focus are critical to the overall success of the initiative.
