What is a Human Library?

At the Human Library, you check out people instead of books and spend time talking with them. Each "book" challenges a stereotype.

A safe space where “books” (people) can tell their stories of grief, struggle, and triumph to “readers” (audience) in hopes that their stories provide the reader with newfound knowledge."

What are rules of the Human Library?

  • The reader must leave the book in the same mental and physical condition as borrowed.

  • It is forbidden to cause damage to the book in any way, shape, or form.

  • The reader accepts that the book can quit the conversation if they feel the reader has treated it in an inappropriate manner.

  • The reader acknowledges that moderators will be on hand to maintain and care for the books well being.

  • The reader acknowledges that because this is a safe space, photo, video, or audio recording is prohibited.

  • The reader acknowledges that the chat box is to be used for questions and not to degrade the book, moderator, or other readers.

  • The reader agrees to participate in follow-up surveys and other means of contact regarding this learning experience.
