Everyone has a story to tell! With the Human Library, you can become a book and tell your story at PVCC’s Virtual Human Library event. In a Human Library, speakers serve as "books" and present briefly (10-15 minutes) on a signature event in their life to showcase the complexity of the human experience. These personal stories will be "checked out" by members of the audience, also known as readers. These stories can focus on personal biases you’ve overcome, identity struggles, or personal stories of growth.
After you tell your story, participants ask the "book" questions and engage in a dialogue. The intent is to promote civil conversations and to have people engage with others outside of their usual sphere. These discussions can break down biases or preconceived notions readers may have, as well as learn more about new ideas, ways of being or thinking, or struggles that make up the human experience.
In total each presentation is no more than 30 minutes: Your 10-15 min presentation would be followed by a brief Q and A.
Typically, these events are hosted in-person and are one-on-one, but our event will be virtual. Does this sound like something you would be interested in? If so, could you pick out an event in your life that you'd be comfortable with sharing?
