Writers College Short Story from an Emerging Writer - closes June 30th 2023. More short story competitions here.

NZ Poetry Society Competition - the junior competition opens on April 20th. More details here.

Robocup online challenges - entries close June 24th. Regional and national competitions are also available.

Sargeson prize short story competition for secondary students ages 16 - 18. Entries open April 1st.

2023 da Vinci Decathlon 

 What is da Vinci Decathlon?

The da Vinci Decathlon is an academic competition designed to challenge and stimulate the minds of school students. Students compete in teams of eight across 10 disciplines: engineering, mathematics, code breaking, art and poetry, science, English, ideation, creative producers, cartography and legacy.  You can view past resources and the 2022 video’s for the online competition at the decathlon website here:


Dates:   Tuesday 2 May, 2023 – Year 9

           Thursday 4 May, 2023 – Year 10 & 11

Location; Christ’s College,

Cost:      $160 per team. 

Entry:  You may enter  team of eight students in any or all of the relevant year groups: Years 9, 10 and 11. If a school enters a team with combined year levels, (eg students in Years 9 and 10), they must compete at the higher year level.   Due to the popularity of the competition, entries are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Congratulations to the  Papanui High School South Island Ethics Olympiad champions. Vai Patel, Elisabeth Cox, Emma Marshall and Maya Powell will be competing in the International Ethics Olympiad on February 23 , 2023.

Update: Our international Ethletes did PHS proud and came 6th out of 40 international teams.
