Below is a conceptual design we did with our junior classes based on Maori waka. We first looked at the history part of voyaging and travelling across the Pacific. We looked at the different waka designs across different cultures such as Tahiti, Hawaii, Samoa, Easter Island etc...We then asked students to produce a series of designs on Tinkercad which is a free app you could use online.
Here is the final printed design.
We also covered other significant areas of our school and students cultural background. Being in a school where almost 70% of our Tamariki are Maori, it was important to do a project based on our school Marae. Below is the final print which took about 40 hours + to print and glue together.
