How can I use SEL Student Competencies Survey Results: Individual Student Social & Emotional Development

This survey measures an individual student’s social and emotional learning and skills. This survey is intended to help schools better understand the SEL context of their building and classes, and are not intended to be used for evaluation or accountability for the school, teacher, or student. While data for groups are available, the survey is taken confidentially.

Questions SEL Student Competencies can help answer:

● Which groups have the highest and lowest on a certain topic included in the survey?

● Do groups that report low growth mindset also have low MAP growth?

● How have my results changed over time? (NOTE: if this is the first time your district administered the survey, you will have this data during your next administration.)

● Which question/topic in a domain did students answer most/least favorably?

● What kind of playbook strategies can I incorporate in my practices?

Caveats and how SEL Student Competencies should not be used:

● To compare schools, school leaders, or teachers for the purpose of evaluation or accountability.

● To compare across school levels. Like attendance, elementary, middle, and high schools have very different ranges of values.
