These student feedback surveys or SEL Supports and Environment survey, measures school culture and climate and it is statistically valid and intended to help schools better understand the context of their building and the perceptions of their students, and are not intended to be used for evaluation or accountability. While data for groups are available, the survey is taken confidentially.
● What is the overall culture/climate context of my district?
● Which groups have the highest and lowest perceptions on the topics that were included in the survey?
● Do groups that report low relationships also have low attendance or academic achievement?
● How have my results changed over time? (NOTE: if this is the first time your district administered the survey, you will have this data during your next administration.)
● Which question/topic in a domain did students answer most/least favorably?
● How do my results compare to similar districts nationally? (To compare to national benchmarks, select the correct school level, setting, and FRPL status.)
● For Elementary, Belonging and Relationships are more reflective perceptions about a student’s classroom than about the entire school.
● To compare schools or school leaders for the purpose of evaluation or accountability.
● To compare across school levels. Like attendance, elementary, middle, and high schools have very different ranges of values.
Note: The SEL supports data can help district leaders determine which student population is “least reached,” and identify the groups with the largest SEL gaps. It can also provide some insight into which Tier 1 interventions used by particular school is working well.
