Dear wonderful students, we are here to help with all things Pangbourne.
Send us your suggestions of things you want to know!

Get yourself a very good mattress topper! Not to say that the mattresses aren’t amazingly comfortable, but you’ll find this makes sleeping a lot easier.
Make sure to set an alarm as this will help you to get up in the mornings when you are feeling especially tired.
Another hack for packing: take as few suitcases as you can manage! You don’t want to be carrying nine bags up and down the stairs.
Another sleeping hack would be to get a good pillow that allows you to have a good night's sleep.
We also find that bringing in snacks can really boost your morale when you’re three preps in and you’re feeling low on energy!
Having something to listen to before you go to bed is helpful; We love listening to podcasts and chilled-out background music.
Similarly, you can use earpods or headphones to help you concentrate more as a boarder during prep.
How to survive a Parade:
DON'T SKIP BREAKFAST. Number 1 rule - it is crucial to eat before a parade and will get you through without getting wobbly.
On that Sunday, have a water bottle and drink a bit before (but not too much or you will be needing the toilet during it).
Wiggle your feet when standing at attention; this will keep your circulation going and means you won't faint.
Get a good nights sleep beforehand. Falling asleep whilst parading is not a smart thing to do especially whilst standing still. Being tired will also make you more likely to faint.
Understand the importance of parade - do your research or ask others - don't mess about as it is disrespectful
Listen to your chiefs! When they tell you to do something - DO IT!

How to survive Winter at Pangbourne:
Wear thermals under your No.2s.
Take advantage of daylight, go for a walk at lunch, and make the most of activities time whilst it's still light!
Make a hot drink to warm up; Sixth Form can go to the cafe!
Wrap up warm; a big coat and scarf (your coat will have to be black or blue though!) for the foggy mornings.
Buy an umbrella at the school shop for the rainy days
How to survive a summer at Pangbourne:
Keep as cool as you can by not wearing your suit (sixth form) or your jumper.
Keep hydrated especially as the last half term of the year is particularly busy.
Try and stay calm at anyone and not get angry and say anything you may regret, as emotions are heightened when there is heat.
Remember it is almost the summer holidays... keep going and take every opportunity given.
Some people are leaving so make sure you support them and wish them well!
Exam/ revision tips:
As exam season is coming up here are some top tips to help as I’m sure we will all need it:
Start early - writes notes as early as you can to spread out your work and avoid last minute panic
Clarify with your teacher what you will be assessed on, so you can make a focused revision plan
Create a detailed timetable as this helps with your motivation as if you stick to your timetable then you will feel accomplished - but be brutally honest with yourself regarding how much you will actually be able to get done
Think of your revision as a journey rather than a destination - and try and enjoy what you are learning about, rather than just thinking ‘oh i’m only doing this for the exam’ as if you have that attitude then you will not do as good as if you actually enjoy learning, then you will do so much better as you would of actually retained more knowledge
It has been proven that you learn 95% better if you teach someone else, compared to only 5% better if you just read a textbook
Find a revision method that works for you - whether this be writing notes, mind maps, online quizzes, whiteboard work, exam past papers, flashcards
Make sure you look after yourself, that is the most important thing - eat and drink well and healthy, take regular breaks (work for 45 minutes, break for 5 mins) and get enough sleep!!
Fun fact: short study sessions followed by short naps are considered one of the best ways to learn
Find a quiet, well lit place away from any distractions, including your phone - social media and texting your friends is not beneficial to your exams sadly :(
Have a positive/motivated mindset - this is easier said than done but if you go into the exam feeling confident and not stressed then you are more likely to better and not panic and overthink whilst you are in the exam
Remember everyone else is in the same boat as you so you can all support each other and not be short tempered with anyone
Refrain from talking about what you wrote in the exam as this 100% makes people feel bad and there is nothing you can do once you have finished the exam and it creates a panic as everyone else may say they put one answer and you put another one, when actually you could have put the right answer - so don’t listen to anyone else as you know what you did best, and where you thought you lost marks based on what other people said, you may have gained marks elsewhere that they didn’t get
How to stay motivated - change your scenery during revision; countdown the days; plan something to look forward to, but don’t celebrate too early, however still allow yourself small victories
Continually going over academic content is more effective to remember the information then spending ages all at once going over a topic briefly
Revision techniques - sticky notes (around your room? - particularly helpful for a specific area you don’t understand e.g a diagram in biology you need to get your head around), identify key areas/topics you need to improve on from exam papers, go through mark schemes so you know where you have picked up/lost marks
Here is a helpful link of revision tips from the University of Bristol - https://www.bristol.ac.uk/media-library/sites/sps/migrated/documents/section15.pdf
Good luck guys - you’ve got this and keep smiling!! :)
