German at PHS is taught by Mr. Dail. Mr. Dail comes to us from Atlanta, Georgia, having taught advanced courses in German literature and film studies at colleges and universities in the United States and New Zealand. He has spent many years studying, working, teaching, living, and enjoying life in Germany, including as a Fulbright Scholar and Rotary Scholar. He has taught high school German since 2014 in Florida, Georgia, and now Illinois.
Pana High School is part of the Pana Community Unit School District. Our school is particularly well-known for its programs in agriculture and sports. The school offers a full complement of course work leading to degree credit, industry certifications, and general education diplomas. We participate in the Advanced Placement program, Future Farmers of America, Model UN, Scholastic Bowl, and many fine arts competitions.
German has been revived as a subject at Pana High School. We currently have a Level 2 course and hope to continue to expand our offerings to the Advanced Placement and dual credit levels. The subject is taught according to the World Language Readiness standards, adopted by the Illinois State Board of Education. Successful students can expect to attain the "intermediate-high" (CEFR B2) level of proficiency after four years of diligent study and practice.
