We look forward to hearing from all interested runners! This includes 6th graders, middle schoolers, and high schoolers!
During these dates, our team meets Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 8am outside in front of the high school main entrance doors. It's important to develop healthy habits in the offseason to take with you into the regular season and beyond... Be sure you're hydrated and smart about nutrient intake before running. A new pair of running shoes (every 300 miles) makes a big difference. Apple/Garmin watches make pacing and knowing your times way easier, Strength & Mobility (SAM) workouts and yoga help us recover and maintain flexibility, and the weight room helps us build strength! If you're feeling unwell, please do not come. Keep an eye on your emails and Remind for location and schedule changes.
If you cannot make voluntary workouts, make sure you are running on your own!
It's Monday, August 11th & mandatory practice begins! Make sure you're meeting Coach Horvath outside in front of the high school main entrance doors at 3:30 Mondays-Fridays. We meet those 5 days and get most of our miles in then. As the year wears on, we sometimes may meet on a Saturday. Be sure to check the schedule and results page to see where we will be this season. Our first race will be here before you know it!
Pictured below are our high school and middle school home courses! They take place almost entirely on our school's campus!
Boys HS Course Record: Connor Hibell (Palmerton) - 16:34
Girls HS Course Record: Virginia Kraus (Saucon Valley) - 18:25
Boys MS Course Record: Quinn Heimbach (Lehighton) - 8:10
Girls MS Course Record: Logan Gillespie (Jim Thorpe) - 9:08
Courses inspired by Bill Zeky, created by Mike Horvath, and assisted by Mike Noyola.
We have done many tempo runs! Please watch this video to get a better idea about how to do this workout. It is very important that we get tempo runs right. They are a valuable tool in our training arsenal. During training, a lot of tempo runs will help us maintain our speed throughout a race!
Most of you know about how long it takes you to run a mile. Here's an interesting video from the sports website SB Nation that talks about the history of the one mile race. It focuses mainly on the 1999 world record breaking race, but it talks about many other recorder holders of the 20th century. Check it out!
Here is an interesting running video below. View it directly on YouTube if you would prefer. Hopefully it inspires you. Enjoy!
