BEFORE YOU ASK TO GO LIVE CHECKLIST

Before you submit a Service Request in eSupport to report that your web pages are ready to Go Live, be sure you can answer ‘YES’ to each of the following questions.

Did you attend & complete a SchoolMessenger webmaster training class?
Are you comfortable modifying/editing web pages in SchoolMessenger?
Did you compare your new SchoolMessenger content to your current WordPress content to ensure all relevant public facing content is now on your SchoolMessenger web pages?
Did you ensure your SchoolMessenger content is presented as a functional, not a department, site? That means avoiding department logos, mission statements, & lists & photos of employees.
Did you ensure your SchoolMessenger content is 100% meant for a public audience? [Remember, your employee audience content will be covered in the coming District Intranet.]
Did you proofread all text on all your SchoolMessenger web pages to ensure there are no typos, misspellings, incorrect grammar, etc.? (perhaps ask for another pair of eyes to proofread for you).
Did you review your entire new SchoolMessenger site from varying perspectives (parent, student, potential parent/student, community member, business owner, etc)? Is it easy to find things? Are the elements most important to parents, students &/or the community only 1 or 2 clicks away?

SCHOOLS GO LIVE CHECKLIST

Now that your school's new website is live, be sure you can continue

to answer ‘YES’ to each of the following questions.

Did you attend & complete a SchoolMessenger webmaster training class?
Are you comfortable modifying/editing web pages in SchoolMessenger?
Did you compare your school’s new SchoolMessenger site content to your school’s current Edline website content to ensure all relevant content is now in your SchoolMessenger site?
Does your SchoolMessenger home page include the following elements, each with content in them?
- Your school’s correct full name & logo in the header
- Current news stories showcasing your school, programs, students &/or teachers in the top left
- Rotating images in the top right that showcase your school, programs, students &/or teachers
- 1 or more current Announcements immediately under the top rotating images
- Your school’s preferred content / links in the large Quick Link boxes in the center. Ensure www.edline.net & School Cash Online (https://palmbeach.schoolcashonline.com/Home/SignIn) are 2 of your Quick LInk boxes. Prior to start of school in August, replace the Edline box with an SIS Gateway box (http://www2.palmbeachschools.org/focuslanding/).
- Your school’s preferred content / links in the School Update section
- A calendar with your school’s important upcoming calendar events showing under the Events heading
- Your school’s or the District default social media feed under the Connect with Us heading
- Your school’s preferred content in the box immediately above the footer
- Your school’s correct full name, logo, address & phone number in the footer
Is your school’s demographic info in the center of the School Info page accurate?
Are the School Info page Quick Links at the left active & relevant?
Does the Contact Us page under the School Info page include up-to-date & relevant content? (the Contact Us page content can be by topic such as Guidance, Attendance, Main Office, etc. or by person’s name).
Is there relevant & current content in the center of the Athletics & Activities page?*
Are the Athletics & Activities page Quick Links at the left active & relevant?
Is there relevant & current content in the center of the Students & Parents page?*
Are the Students & Parents page Quick Links at the left active & relevant?
Did you check all links on all your SchoolMessenger web pages to ensure each is working & no link goes to your school's old Edline site?
Did you proof read all text on all your SchoolMessenger web pages to ensure there are no typos, misspellings, incorrect grammar, etc.? (perhaps ask for another pair of eyes to proof read for you).
Did you review your entire new SchoolMessenger site from varying perspectives (parent, student, potential parent/student, community member, etc)? Is it easy for a parent or student to find things? Are the elements most important to parents and students only 1 or 2 clicks away?
Did you check to ensure your school's correct logo is visible in the District mobile app? [If it's not correct, submit a Service Request in eSupport & attach the correct logo to have it updated in the mobile app.]

*If you currently have no content for the center of the Athletics & Activities page &/or the Students & Parents page, add the words "Coming Soon" or a "Coming Soon" graphic in the center to avoid going live with a blank page.

Project Team Intranet QA Checklist

Did you:

ensure the content is presented as a functional, not a department, site? That means avoiding department logos, mission statements, & lists & photos of employees.
ensure the content is 100% meant for an internal employee audience?
ensure our standard font & font size is used (Tahoma, 3)?
change the page URL to shorten it when necessary?
find & correct typos, incorrect grammar, & inconsistent wording & capitalization?
- ensure consistency with ‘&’ vs. ‘and’ & ‘district’ vs. ‘District’.
confirm each link is functional & not a dead link?
- If it’s opening an external site or document, select ‘open in a new tab’. If it’s opening another of our pages, select ‘open in existing window’.
ensure each image is the proper size, fits in the alloted space, includes Alt Text, & looks correct on a mobile device (width must include a % sign)?
change each District form PDF URL to https://www2.palmbeachschools.org/FormSearch/Form/pdf/#### (where #### is the PBSD #).
ensure web page titles are appropriate with the least words possible?
- Examples: ‘Alternative Schools List’ is better than ‘List of Alternative Schools’, ‘Public Records Requests’ is better than ‘How to Request Public Records’.
- avoid generic, non-helpful words like ‘Information’ (i.e.,‘Fingerprinting / Background Checks’ is better than ‘Fingerprint / Background Check Information’).
ensure left navigation items are listed alphabetically when possible?
look for opportunities to move a sub page up 1 level?
- If there is minimal content on a page, can it be deleted & that content moved up to its parent page?
look for opportunities to move left navigation items on a blank landing page to the right section of the landing page & remove them from the left navigation?
look for the best way to present content?
- Example: an accordion with just 2 items & each item is just 1 paragraph is not the best. Instead, just place the 2 paragraphs on the page.
view each section on a mobile device. Is it functional? Is it user friendly? Does it require minimal clicks to get to an important content area?
mark on our Go Live Status spreadsheet that this section has completed QA & is ready for Go Live?
