My Dream for My Future
by Chantel Watson
Do you remember those days when you were in primary school when the teacher asked the infamous question,
“What do you want to be when you grow up?” I can still recall the responses: doctor, lawyer, nurse, accountant,
police officer, firefighter or soldier. Back then, the future seemed so far-fetched; but you blink a few times, and suddenly it's here.
That question still lingers with me today: What are my dreams for the future? I could give the usual cliché
responses like traveling the world, becoming a medical assistant, getting married, or meeting new people. But
those aren’t truly my dreams; in fact, they’re just surface-level aspirations. The truth is, I fear flying, I can’t stand
the sight or smell of blood, I’m not interested in romantic relationships, and I’m so introverted that the few friends I
have refer to me as a hermit crab. So what, then, is a dream?
For me, it’s simple: to see my children grow into successful, God-fearing adults. That is what truly matters to me.
Every sacrifice I’ve made and every challenge I’ve endured has been with their future in mind. I want them to
have opportunities I never had and to feel supported in ways I sometimes lacked. Their growth, happiness, and
independence will be the truest reflection of my efforts.
At the end of the day, guiding my children so they not only succeed but thrive is my deepest dream. That purpose
gives meaning to my life; and it will be my greatest fulfillment.
