K-2 Mrs. Perry

Students investigating science

What Do You Wonder? What Do You Notice?

These are the questions we have been asking and answering during our inquiry lessons.

During our first investigation, students asked questions, predicted answers, and observed what happens to marshmallows as we cooked them for 10, 30, and 50 seconds! They were so excited as the marshmallows expanded and looked as if they would explode!

During our next investigation, students had to figure out why scientists called a tomato a fruit. They dissected various fruits and vegetables to find seeds and then determine – science fruit or science vegetable!

Students in grades 3, 4, and 5 have started off the year reminding ourselves that the root of all investigations is ASKING A GREAT QUESTION. And that is exactly what we have been doing - asking questions and trying to discover answers through research, observation, experiments, and collaboration. Students are becoming experts with a variety of tools from hand lenses and microscopes to triple beam balances and spring scales, and lets not forget thermometers and graduated cylinders too!

As we move into Physical Science students are building their knowledge and understanding of Matter and Energy. We are looking forward to using more teamwork to improve all of our skills and understanding.
