Art Curriculum

The goal of the visual art curriculum is to create a safe and fun learning environment where students can explore and refine their creative talents. Students will have access to a variety of materials, learn several different techniques, and become familiar with different artists and illustrators. I use the visual arts to help students express themselves and, whenever possible, to reinforce the academic concepts they’re focusing on in their regular classrooms. I encourage children to take creative risks, think independently, and, of course, always do their personal best!

Students are graded based on their participation and effort, use of materials, and understanding of discussed concepts. Additionally, students reflect and self-assess after each assignment. Every child can succeed and excel in the art room given that they follow the Poinciana STEM schoolwide rules and the art room rules. This ensures students the maximum amount of time for art-making in our limited class time!

Please be aware that art can be messy and, although we use washable materials, students should dress accordingly.
