Reading Counts is an independent reading program that promotes literacy and comprehension. Students grades kindergarten through 5th grade are invited to participate. The steps to access Reading Counts are reviewed during the first weeks of school; However, it is up to the student to follow through with reading, taking quizzes and earning points. To access Reading Counts, from your district portal, click on the Reading Counts (RC) tile, the red one called Scholastic HMH. From here, students will login to Reading Counts by using pb######## as both username and password (the #'s represent the student's ID number). Reading Counts quizzes can only be taken at school (except for April - September 2020) and students must receive a score of seven or more correct out of ten to earn RC points. If a students does not pass a quiz, they have a total of three chances to retake that quiz, but must wait 24 hours between each attempt. All student's Reading Counts points are reset to zero at the beginning of each school year. Each book is assigned a specific number of points based on the length and difficulty of the book. The Reading Counts book list is maintained by the district and updated periodically. A full list of books can be found on the district website. Students are allowed to take quizzes in morning media, classrooms (with teacher permission) or media and technology classes.
