Battle of the Books consists of teams of students (2-5 students per team) from 3rd through 5th grades who have read at least three of the Sunshine State Young Reader's Award (SSYRA) books. We meet weekly from November through January to prepare for the online battle in mid-January. We have book talks, discuss characters, plot, conflict and take practice quizzes on booktaco.com. In January, the teams have 20 minutes to answer as many questions as possible on the 15 SSYRA books. If any team places 1st or 2nd place, they advance to the finals located at The Education Network (TEN) which is televised. The 2019-2020 Battle of the Books team, Discovery Key Book Beez, completed their online battle. The students worked together and were able to answer 83 questions correctly in 20 minutes! Awesome!
These two teams from 2018-2019 did an outstanding job representing Discovery Key in the online battle in January. They worked very hard reading the books, recalling details, having book talks and coming prepared to the battle. So proud of their hard work!
