Think about structures in plants and their roles in food production, support, water and nutrient transport, and reproduction. You will be drawing all the parts in a plant but you must use your imagination and references to design your very one plant that has all it necessary parts for survival.
In your drawing show how plants respond to stimuli (heat, light, gravity), such as the way plant stems grow toward light and their roots grow downward in response to gravity.
You must also show what energies a plant uses like sun, air, and water to make their own food.
What is the job of each plant structure?
Plants have roots to anchor them in the soil and absorb water and minerals.
They also have stems that connect to the roots supporting the plant and transporting water to their leaves.
Plants also have leaves that collect carbon dioxide and water, and chemically change them into sugar (glucose) which the plant uses for food.
At the same time, the plant gives off oxygen into the air.
A plant’s roots, stems, and leaves work together to keep the plant alive
What are flowers? flowers are the reproductive structures of plants; the stamens, anther & pollen, pistil, ovary & eggs.
What are seeds? the structure produced by a plant which houses a tiny undeveloped plant and supply of food for the plant
What is pollination? pollination is the transfer of pollen from a male part of a plant (stamen) to the female part (pistil); some plants pollinate themselves, fertilizing their eggs with wind-blown pollen; other plants get assistance from insects, birds, or bats called pollinators, which help cross-pollinate one plant to another
What is fertilization? the union of pollen (male part) and eggs (female part)
What is germination? the process in which a fertilized seed begins to sprout and grow
