William Phelps

This is William S. Phelps. He was the owner of the Phelps General Store. He bought the store in 1868.

William S. Phelps was born is 1832. William Phelps was ill for over a year before he died. William died at home on a Thursday evening. He was 85. William had lots of friends and the store had been there since 1868.


The Phelps General Store was a boarding house before it was a store and William purchased the building in 1868.

William's wife name is Catherine.

William Phelps served as president of the Village Inn in 1876 and later as Village Treasurer, Police Justice, Justice of Peace, and Village Trustee, and was an ex-member of the Board of Education. He was very important to Palmyra and people trusted him.

When ghost hunters were in the building the glass counter got smashed. William Phelps was mad that they were looking in the safe. The ghost hunters were teasing William that they had the keys to the whole building. This shows that William really loved his money.
