How can family, educators & the community partner to help PYP students learn?
The IB places a powerful emphasis on inquiry-based learning. Inquiry is all about triggering a student’s curiosity, which naturally leads to an enthusiasm to learn new things. Rather than focusing on telling students one right answer, our faculty works to engage students in a process where students can try without worrying about being wrong and where they can witness their own growth in not only what they learn but recognizing how and when they learn.
All members of a student's community can encourage them to be independent, life-long learners by:
Placing emphasis on curiosity, wonder and joy in the process of learning.
Involving students in important decisions and encouraging them to take their own action.
Allowing choice in how to pursue and express their learning.
Involving students in setting their own academic goals.
Providing opportunities to practice, reflect, self-assess, and receive feedback on specific skills.
Recognizing that learning is a process that sometimes moves forward quickly and sometimes may go slower or even fall backward as we continue to stretch out of our comfort zones and meet new challenges.
