Students in a Pagosa Springs Middle School Band have the opportunity to learn an instrument while playing with a group. The primary focus is on traditional concert band literature. Band is available for 6th, 7th, and 8th grades.
NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED!! Students in 6th Grade Beginning Band start from the very beginning. Students choose an instrument and we begin with proper handling and care and progress to proper playing techniques as we work through the Standard Of Excellence (Enhanced Edition) Book 1. Students are expected to perform at the scheduled band performances. There are generally three performances a year: one in December, the Band-O-Rama event in the spring (usually between March and May), and the final concert of the year in May.
7th Grade Band is a continuation from 6th Grade Beginning Band. Generally students have at least one year of experience with reading music and playing an instrument before joining the 7th Grade Band. Students without experience who wish to join the 7th Grade Band must meet with Mrs Burnett. Students will play out of method books (Standard of Excellence Book 1 and 2) as well as learning standard band literature.
