Hi, I'm Malinda Burnett! I am the music director at Pagosa Springs Middle School where I teach a variety of music classes for 5th through 8th grades.
I grew up in Pagosa and I am actually a third generation Pagosan. I graduated from Pagosa Springs High School in 2007. I attended Fort Lewis College (in Durango) from 2007-2011 where I earned a Bachelor's degree in General Music. While I did not graduate with a teaching license from Fort Lewis College, my primary focus was in music education. I completed the alternative licensing program through Western State Colorado University, receiving my teaching license in 2015. I also completed a graduate program at Western State Colorado University where I earned a Master's degree in Teacher Leadership in 2017.
I enjoy being an active musician in my community. I have played alto saxophone with the Southwest Civic Winds off and on since 2013. The Southwest Civic Winds is a high level community band that performs in Bayfield, Durango, and Farmington. I continue to perform with the Southwest Civic Winds as my schedule permits.
I am a member of the Pagosa Springs Community Band (playing saxophone) and I am also Co-Conductor of the group. I enjoy participating in CUP (Curtains Up Pagosa) productions as part of their pit orchestra and I sing with the Pagosa Springs Community Choir each fall.
When I am not busy teaching, practicing, or performing, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our families here in Pagosa.
