Why do we see, when we would rather choose to be blind?
Blind to the things that we wish we could not see,
the things that our minds won’t let us perceive?
We have chosen to close our eyes, mainly at the times we are most low.
We have shut out all of the memories that made us feel hurt, and so then we let go.
Why do we hear?
We have become so immune to,
stopped listening to,
what has been told to us oh-so-many times.
We act as if we weren’t paying attention,
because maybe what we heard just wasn’t what we wanted to hear at the time.
We have heard the cries and the words of those calling for help,
yet our inability to see led us to the conclusion that if we don’t hear, we don’t feel.
And if we don’t hear what we can’t see, then maybe none of it is truly real.
Lastly, why do we speak?
We have time and time again proven that we are not too fond of words.
The ones that have spiteful hearts and hate are the ones who have chosen to speak
and be mute with emotions,
as if living is a curse.
We all are blind to the change,
and act as if not to hear the things people say,
and with no perception of the world, we have no words to give,
leaving the brain without knowledge to feed on.
Why do we act as if we are ghostly when, in fact, we are there?
We act as if no one matters, and as if we never would care.
The world could change for the better if we all could be understood.
See, hear, and speak: that is all we need to do.
Verse 1:
It is hard to think about all the people that had died,
all those broken-hearted parents at Kent wondering why--
Why their children weren’t safe,
Why the guards had gone wild,
And why they weren’t there to stop the protest gone mild.
Though it hurts to think about why all this has happened,
we have to look at life and count up all our blessings.
Though we feel we are at a loss, we have to realize that we can make a change,
we just have to stick together, ‘cause...
Chorus:
We are as strong as a thousand bulls.
We are as wise as a thousand owls.
We can make it,
freedom, we’ll take it.
yeah.
We are as strong a thousand bulls.
Verse 2:
It is hard to think that even Nixon failed but tried,
a President couldn’t even save us from this scary ride.
Every day was a massacre like My Lai,
we shouted at the heavens where the great and rested lay.
We tried to protest but it turned to friendly fire,
all this madness and hopes are down to the wire.
But we have to remember we can make a change,
we have to fight our fight without bringing rage.
Chorus:
We are as strong as a thousand bulls.
We are as wise as a thousand owls.
We can make it,
freedom, we’ll take it.
yeah.
Verse 3:
It’s time to make a change
U.S. involvement at gains,
but where are we?
We are standing still,
not blind but still aware,
the wars we beat.
We have shown them all,
just by standing tall,
and we’re free!
Chorus:
We were as strong as a thousand bulls
we were as wise as a thousand owls.
Yes, we made it,
freedom we’ve taken it.
Yeah.
We were as strong as a thousand bulls.
A thousand strong.
