Global Education
Global Education
“We are bound in a covenant of reciprocity, a pact of mutual responsibility to sustain those who sustain us.”
-Robin Wall Kimmerer, Braiding Sweetgrass
Global education is an effective way to support students’ academic, social and emotional development.
Pacific Union School’s mission, “to educate students to become lifelong learners who will contribute productively to the world they inherit” could be framed around the relevancy of Global Education.
I designed this site as a short introduction to Global education, as a resource to share my educational experiences and offer diverse perspectives from educators around the world. Global issues and perspectives can be integrated as a lens for teaching any and all content areas. Ultimately, I want to help support students to connect their learning to the wider world.
As educators at Pacific Union, we can help prepare our students to respectfully and effectively communicate and collaborate across cultures and countries, use disciplinary and interdisciplinary knowledge to investigate, as well as TAKE ACTION on issues that matter to themselves and the global community. When we engage our students in real-world issues and activities, their self awareness of their own identity, cultural beliefs and how they connect with others, also helps with cultivating social emotional learning. Students become empowered when they learn the skills to be change makers and make a difference with issues they care deeply about.
