Getting Started

Getting Started with the 21-Day Racial Equity Habit Building Challenge

Wondering how to get started on the 21-Day Racial Equity Habit Building Challenge? Or maybe you missed the kick-off event, and need some guidance? Here you will find tips to navigate the resources to participate, including accessing content through Slack* and the website.

*Please note that the Slack channel is currently only open to Pacific University students and staff/faculty.

Step 1

Commit to learning for 21 days! There will be difficulties along the way - make a strong commitment now to see it through all the way to the end. See the How to Build New Habits infographic on the website to learn strategies to keep up the momentum.

Step 2

Signup on Slack. You can access Slack through the web or an app on a preferred device. Make sure you are signed in through your Pacific University account when joining.

Step 3

Sign in to your Pacific University account and then save the website somewhere to easily access it throughout the 21 days - try as a bookmark or a shortcut on your homescreen or some other way.

Step 4

Navigate through Slack or the website to find suggested materials for each day of the challenge. For Slack, click on each day from the menu on the left (each begins with a #). The days are not in order, so make sure you click the right day! For the website, simply scroll down and click the links on the Home Page for each day. (A demonstration of the Slack site can be found on YouTube.) For each day, you can choose between two options:

  • Only Have a Few Minutes? - choose this if you have less time to engage in the materials that day

  • Have a Bit More Time Today? - choose this option if you have 30-90 minutes to engage in the materials that day

Step 5 (optional)

Post to Slack - share your thoughts on what you learned, ask questions, or respond to peers. Post by typing into the box near the bottom that will say ‘Message #day-1-[the date] and then clicking the Send button or Enter when you are finished typing. Be sure you’re in the correct day before posting!

Step 6 (optional)

Access and share additional resources via Slack by clicking ‘#resources’ (left). You can add resources to one of the linked Padlets (social media, podcasts, videos), or by sharing the links directly in the Slack text box.

Step 7 (optional)

Access university services aimed at supporting your psychological health and well-being such as the Student Counseling Center. You can find links to these on the ‘#get-support’ channel on Slack (left).

Step 8 (optional but encouraged)

Attend the Wrap-Up & Debrief event on Sunday, July 31, 2022, at 4pm. Share about your experience and your plans to continue learning. Zoom info can be found on the flyer posted to the ‘#wrap-up-event’ channel in Slack (left).
