Native to parts of Africa and Iran, cheetahs are known for their slim, aerodynamic bodies, long legs, and distinctive black "tear marks" running from their eyes down to their mouths.
Cheetahs mainly hunt during the day and rely on speed and sight, rather than strength or stealth, to catch prey like gazelles, impalas, and other small to medium-sized antelopes. Unlike other big cats, cheetahs cannot roar, but they can purr, chirp, and make various other sounds.
Cheetahs face threats from habitat loss, human-wildlife conflict, and genetic inbreeding, and are currently listed as vulnerable by the IUCN. Conservation efforts are ongoing to help protect their populations and preserve their habitats.”
