What is Social/Emotional Learning?
Social/emotional learning (SEL) focuses on developing students' social and emotional skills including things such as:
Self-awareness
Self-management
Social awareness
Relationship skills
Responsible decision-making
SEL and executive functioning skills are closely related, as SEL helps students to effectively utilize executive functioning skills such as planning, organizing and time-management. Support in the area of SEL typically involves fostering skill development in these five main areas in order to positively impact executive functioning abilities.
