Jesus, thank you that I am on a journey with you.
Sometimes I wish I was already “there,” having arrived,
past all of the sin and mess of today.
I am in the middle of my story.
I am on my way home, learning, trying, trusting;
Would being in progress be a good place to be.
Remind me again that what I already have in you is the greatest prize I could ask for:
You are my companion on this journey; you have made me your own, your beloved.
Help me be an honest companion to others on their journey
noticing their mountain tops: joyful, thankful, conquering, satisfied,
and their valleys low: parched, tired, weary, wounded.
Perhaps they are on this journey begrudgingly or unsure if they want to go along at all;
would I meet this other person with care,
wherever their journey has brought them thus far;
would I slow down, show up, listen well.
Father, thank you for how you have brought our paths together
help me to trust you to continue to lead the way.
Would I express my dependance on you for every aspect of the journey
through coming to you again and again in prayer.
Jesus, help me to see this person as you do
someone so beloved you would die for them,
someone uniquely shaped to bring light in this world in their own way,
if they were to join you as you redeem and restore all things.
Holy Spirit, help me remember I am not you
You know the depths of hearts,
You illuminate and guide into truth,
You convict and challenge and change.
Help me remember my role as friend
Give me a love for this person that makes my presence like your own,
that I would be your ambassador, your representative.
Give me curiosity that helps us both learn more of who you are,
that in walking this path together we would both end up closer to you.
Together, would we experience the breadth and length and height and depth of your love,
Would we both be richer from our time together, loving you and one another more.
I don’t want to be as one cup pouring into another,
left emptier somehow,
but as one under a waterfall,
inviting all that would hear me to come,
find a place under the downpour.
Bring life, Living Water.
We long for what only you can do in and through us.
Thank you that we can trust in you to lead us onward,
to bring us all the way home.
